Embarrassed about your pelvic health? There’s help
WOMEN who are faced with aesthetic gynaecological issues are sometimes too embarrassed to discuss such private matters with their family and closest friends. Some are so ashamed that they delay or even avoid getting treatment.
But in an effort to empower women to become outspoken advocates for their sexual health and satisfaction, and when necessary, provide repairs to address aesthetic gynaecological concerns that improve the functionality and appearance of the vagina, urogynaecologist Dr Terri-Ann Samuels has devoted herself to evaluating and restoring the health and quality of life of women suffering from symptoms associated with disorders of their pelvic structures, particularly those with pelvic organ prolapse, including dropped bladder and urinary incontinence.
“Since earning my MD, I have sought to practise at the forefront of medicine and be a leader in my field, providing superior care for my patients,” explained Dr. Samuels.
“As I became more established in female medicine, I recognised the need for more advanced treatment of women’s health requirements. In order to meet these growing needs, I got training and now practise in a new and advanced specialty — female pelvic medicine & reconstructive surgery/urogynaecology. I founded Essentially You in Houston,Texas, and am now also here in Jamaica at Skin Solutions on Lady Musgrave Road.”
Childbirth and the natural ageing process cause changes that may affect feminine wellness. A strenuous vaginal childbirth or multiple births can cause stretching of the vagina and loss of bladder control. In addition, the effects of menopause can cause physical and functional changes, such as excessive dryness. These situations can deprive women (and their partners) of their sense of well-being and joy.
“I work tirelessly to bring my patients the latest treatment options for their overall well-being. Whether it’s a tool like ThermiVa, the newest revolution in female pelvic healthcare, or another state of the art technique, I always ensure that I put my patients’ health and welfare at the forefront,” said the alumna of Immaculate Conception High School.
“I provide complete care for women dealing with bladder or bowel leakage, pelvic organ prolapse, fallen bladder, vaginal bulge, and other concerns about pelvic health. I want women to take back their control; especially when it affects the most intimate part of their lives.”
