VisionArri Creations, the pretty in the gritty
“I don’t consider myself to be a designer,” explains Arrianne Williams. “I am an amateur photographer who wanted to create a functional medium for my images that could be produced locally at the highest quality. Living in Jamaica, I am constantly exposed to beautiful and interesting scenery and have always enjoyed capturing them with my camera,” she continues as All Woman Fashion (AWF) raves over her latest collection of bags. The idea of using her images on bags was conceived in August 2015 and materialised a few months later, in November 2015, at MoDA Market. She hasn’t looked back and indeed ensures that the design element of each bag takes into account the effective display of the images and gives them as many uses as possible. Her current bags in the line are multi-purpose. The collection started with two bags. Totally Spacious is an extra-large tote bag that can be zipped closed. It’s lined, has inner pockets, broad straps for comfortable wearing and can be used as a weekend baby beach or work bag and holds under the seat of an aircraft. Inside Out is an 8” x 10” pouch that can be used inside a larger bag as an organiser and can also be used as a clutch.Since 2015, two sizes of cross-body bags, notably Hands Free Fun, the smaller of the two which holds cellphones, keys and small items, and Artful Movements, the larger, which comfortably holds all small tablet computers, and extras for a day out, When Change Makes Cents (coin purses), and most recently I Got Your Back (backpacks) have been added to the line which also includes notebooks, blank cards and cushion covers (done to order). The images all have names and stories or meanings behind them. With the exception of two images used in the first collection, which were shot in Berlin, Germany and the Bahamas, all the images have been shot in Jamaica.“All the images,” says Williams, “are chosen for the energy they hold, in what they represent, the feeling they evoke and the message they convey. Most special to me is Journey, shot in Life Yard, downtown Kingston. It is a symbol of hope and positive transformation.”Her bags appear to be constructed for universal appeal, especially with the introduction of the backpacks. It takes a village, and Williams is fully cognisant of hers … “Sandra, head of bag production, my Copy Cat family, The Portal, Alpha Institute, my family and friends who have supported and encouraged me every step of the way and last, but not least, for a market that connects with and believes in Jamaica, who buys Jamaican by Jamaicans. There’s more good news — VisionArri Creations are available in the United States at Cape Cod and are coming soon to Aspen, Colorado.
(Editor’s note: The bags were completely sold out within weeks of hitting the shelves at Cape Cod.)
