Vows: All that matters
When Ministry of Education, Youth and Information Youth Empowerment Officer Davey Haughton met Kerry-Ann Irving, Heart Trust/NTA administrative officer, neither of them knew that on June 24, 2016, they would walk down the aisle as husband and wife. Vows recounts those steps to the altar.
How They Met…
How They Met…
The two studied at the Northern Caribbean University. Kerry-Ann remembers seeing Davey on campus very often, but the two never spoke, until one day, before leaving to New York for summer break, Kerry-Ann sent out a chain mail via text listing her contact deets while she was away, totally unaware that her future husband would’ve received this message. Davey responded, and the unending conversations went on. Apparently Davey had always liked Kerry-Ann. Two months later, they scheduled a dinner date in New York City, and finally met each other officially in the summer of 2010.
The Proposal…
The Proposal…
“Surprise is an understatement,” Kerry-Ann recalls. “We had dinner at the Spanish Court Hotel the evening Davey decided to propose. After dessert, he said he was going to get something on the balcony. I started to realise he was gone for a concerning period of time. Regardless, I sat there awaiting his return. Sometime later a server approached me, and insisted I follow her to the terrace. Okay, now I’m confused. What’s happening here? I walked up to the terrace to see red rose petals leading to a table where Davey was, on one knee with a box in his hand. Everything froze; I heard cheers from guests dining on the terrace. I stood there, weak in my knees, crying, all the emotions, all at once. I said yes!”
The Ceremony…
The Ceremony…
The S-Kay Events transformation of the wedding area at the Hope Gardens was evident with elegant hues of blue, accented with silver, gold, and chocolate déco elements. Parents of the bride and groom danced their way to the altar to Michael Bublé’s L O V E. The opening piece was a ballet recital by Shamike Gordon, to the chords of Flawless by MercyMe. As soon as Jamie Grace’s up-tempo country hit White Boots started playing, members of the bridal party shot up from their seating areas among the gathering and started dancing on the spot, then moved towards the aisle in choreo. The ladies were met by the groomsmen, who gave them a twirl, then danced up to the altar arm-in-arm. Maid of honour Diandra Gayle took her position at the altar. She was followed by flower girl Xalaya Johnson. NewSong featuring Natalie Grant When God Made You signalled Kerry-Ann’s entrance. She was escorted by her father George Irving. She wore an exquisite sweetheart neckline fit-and-flare gown with bust-to-hemline ruching; carried a bouquet of tie-dye orchids, white roses, carnations and baby’s breath; and wore her braided hair in a half-up-half-down fashion under a delicate lace-trimmed elbow veil. A blue carpet ran from the pillars at the entrance of the aisle to the cabana-styled altar where Davey and Kerry-Ann shared “I dos”. Reverend Dr V T Williams officiated the ceremony, announcing Mr and Mrs Davey Haughton as husband and wife.
The Reception…

…was held at the Altamont Court Hotel. The S-Kay Events team led by Shana-Kay Pottinger transformed the space with varying shades of blue accented with crystal tableware and white and gold floral arrangements. The bridal party danced their way into the reception to Chris Martin’s I’m A Big Deal. Comedian Christopher ‘Johnny’ Daley was the master of ceremonies. Guests enjoyed scrumptious fare provided by the Altamont Court Hotel kitchen, while the Earth Elements band entertained. Formalities followed, including the unveiling of the cake by Emma Irving and Rosan Steven; the official cutting of the cake — a two-tiered cheese cake and Black Forest cake made by S-Kay Events — and various toasts to the newly-weds. Kerry-Ann slipped into an electric blue cocktail dress paired with black stockings and ballet flats for the upcoming three-minute choreographed piece to a mashup of Omi’s Cheerleader and Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud. Kerry-Ann’s former dance teacher Sharon Gordon opened the dance floor by starting the 22-step electric slide routine. The newly-weds honeymooned at the luxurious Grand Bahia Principe in Runaway Bay for seven days.
