Vows – Happy Ever After
The gardens at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel were transformed on Saturday, April 2 into serene surroundings of “Springtime Love” to bring to an exciting climax the four-year courtship of Dwayne Lawrence, mechanical engineer, and his educator belle Sany-Kay Mundle. Vows takes you up the aisle.
How they met… (Sany-Kay’s Version)
“Dwayne moved to the community in 1994. Although we never spoke, he would normally pass me almost every morning at the bus stop, as he went to Knox College and I went to Edwin Allen High School. After high school, we both left to attend college. I went to Montego Bay and he went to Kingston. One evening my sister called and told me that Mr Lawrence’s son was messaging her on
Facebook but she was sure he would rather be speaking to me. I sent him a friend request and that is how it all began.” Indeed, social media became their sole means of communication until April 23, 2011 when they met in person. Their relationship developed slowly as it took some time to get used to each other and yes, speak face to face.
The proposal… (Dwayne’s Version)
“Her birthday is July 2nd, so I decided that it would be the perfect day — she likes surprises. Nerves got the better of me, however, and I ended up becoming distant and grumpy.” Totally put off, Sany-Kay opted to spend the day at the spa followed by lunch with her niece as opposed to spending the day with Dwayne. To make matters worse, he suggested that she take a cab home instead of offering her a ride home. With the help of his boss and friend Colin Francis who owns C&C South Beach, a place they frequented – Dwayne came up with the perfect way to make amends. A bouquet of pink roses was delivered with a suggested dinner date.
Meanwhile at South Beach, the staff got to work — arranging a candlelight dinner in the fine dining area complete with romantic background music. The mood now set, he excused himself from the table and returned with a bouquet of red roses — got down on one knee and proposed. Sany-Kay accepted with tears flowing down her cheeks and cheers from patrons and staff.
The ceremony…
The bride was gorgeous in a strapless fit and flare, diamond white dress designed by Sophia Tolli, and fitted with a ruched diagonal sweetheart neckline with beads. The groom was dapper in a three-piece charcoal-grey suit tailored by Sky and accented with a turquoise blue plaid tie. The groomsmen wore grey suits from Beautiful Brides & Mr Tux, while the bridesmaids styled in turquoise blue one-shoulder sweetheart stretched taffeta dresses, also from Beautiful Brides & Mr Tux. The maid of honour made her own statement in a one-shoulder buttercup yellow dress by Alexandra Events Inc.
D’Mars Event Decorators ensured that all floral arrangements and bouquets complemented the theme, to complete the ‘blossoms in spring’ look the couple hoped to achieve. The ceremony was officiated by Minister Dr Reverend Orville Neil. Rochelle Bryan recited an original poem entitled
The Journey Of Love, in honour of the couple. The signing of the registry made it official on the pristine lawns of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
