The fat woman’s revolution
Back in the day a larger woman was frowned upon as her size was not considered acceptable by society. As such she was treated with little to no regard, wearing the labels of “waga waga”, “bu-duff-baff” or “big and nasty”. She was made to feel like less of person because of her appearance.
A woman of a certain size couldn’t have walked into a store and shopped for clothes to fit her; in fact the minute she would walk into a clothing store she would be ridiculed with shaded comments like, “that won’t fit you” before she even touched an outfit. She would be then offered a poorly altered garment made of something found in her great grandmother’s old grip.
But my, how the tables have turned, as there are now countless stores that cater to the needs of the fashion- conscious plus-sized diva.
These aren’t just regular clothes, but trendsetting styles as well; styles that embrace the different body types that the plus-sized woman comes in.
The same society that once labelled a big girl as ‘fat’ has given her new names such as ‘thickums’, ‘BBW’ (big beautiful woman), ‘plus size’, ‘fluffy’ and ‘thick and juicy’. Society has finally got the message that beauty doesn’t just come in a size 0 and isn’t just based on a one-word definition from clothing labels.
Big women are building up their confidence and everyone is noticing the revolution so much so that even Drake rapped about it.
Yeah, that’s right, I like my girls BBW, yeah;
Yeah, so thick that everybody else in the room is so uncomfortable;
Face look just like Clair Huxtable…
