Vows – When Love Takes Over
It wasn’t quite love at first sight for Jamaican-born Cayman residents Keneisha Murray and Lennox Ferguson. The two met at Hurley’s supermarket where Keneisha was a supervisor. There was, however, something about Lennox, a local deejay…
VOWS recounts their journey to the altar.
That First Encounter…
“The first time we met was five years ago when Lennox popped into Hurley’s to pick up a few grocery items,” Keneisha shared. “Something didn’t add up when he was about to pay for the items; there was an issue with the cashier. He then queried his receipt and the change he received. As the supervisor, it was my job to monitor the cashier as she was a new employee. At first, I believed him to be a troublemaker. However, I approached him and asked, ‘Why are you confusing my cashier?’ He shook his head, smiled, and walked away.”
Our Second Encounter…
“I saw Lennox at a party later on that week. I remember telling my sister that I’d met him before as we checked him out. The DJ called him up on stage to introduce him to the patrons, and that’s when we realised that he was a disc jock as well. From there on, I kept going out just to see him play, and if I missed one of his parties, I’d buy the videos to see him in action. On one occasion in particular, while we watched one of his videos, my friend’s sister recognised him and exclaimed, ‘See your husband there!’ He was mine before either of us even knew it. Even though I had hopes of dating him, in the back of my mind I expected deejays to be attracted to a certain kind of girl, so I didn’t think we’d ever exchange words.
“My sister and I began partying more regularly and people started to recognise us. A videographer who frequents the party scene came over to us one night, and during an interview, we coined the street name “Unique Girlz”. I caught Lennox glancing over at us the entire time, and as soon as the interview wrapped, he came over and introduced himself. We started chatting, and later exchanged BBM pins. We spoke daily for hours on end. Sometimes I’d think to myself, ‘he must be a DJ, once he starts talking, there’s no stopping.’ He invited me out on a cruise for our first date, and after that we made plans to be with each other more frequently.”
The Proposal…
“Lennox planned a two-week vacation to Jamaica that seemed like two years to me. He popped the question on July 2, 2014, the day he returned from his trip. I was so excited to see him, the last thing on my mind was an engagement. Imagine my surprise when he went down on one knee, and asked for my hand in marriage. It was such a sweet gesture; I quickly said yes.”
The Ceremony…
Guests assembled on the manicured lawns of the Eden Gardens Wellness Resort & Spa to witness Lennox and Keneisha’s charming nuptials on April 25. Yiruma’s River Flows in You (Instrumental) played as Lennox made his way to the altar, dressed in a tailored white suit, with a white vest, black polka dot shirt, and a white polka dot bow tie. The bridesmaids, escorted by the groomsmen, made stylish statements in complementing colours. The groomsmen were outfitted in black and white, while the women wore floor-grazing lace overlay dresses. Richard Wagner’s Bridal Chorus played as Keneisha made her way to the altar in a spaghetti-strapped mermaid gown with a blusher veil, and a ruffled tulle skirt. Pastor Deon Reid conducted the ceremony, and later announced the couple as husband and wife.
The Reception…
The roof-top deck at the Eden Garden Wellness Resort & Spa was the venue for the twilight reception. Otis Honeywell, the master of ceremonies, handled the formalities which, thankfully, the heavy rainfall did not put a damper on. Keneisha’s sister, Dadrine Mighty, prayed over the union.
Bridesmaid and sister of the groom, Georgette Honeywell, led the blessing of the food, after which guests dined on sumptuous local fare catered by Eden Gardens Wellness Resort & Spa. The newly-weds cut the traditional fruitcake designed by Sweet Treats by Kerry Tapper.
Best man Garth Weir Jr and maid of honour Mariza Nixon offered congratulations to the bride and groom. The newly-weds danced to I Found Love (Cindy’s Song) by Bebe & Cece Winans, followed by a special surprise from Keneisha — a dance for Lennox to Beyoncé’s Dance For You.
The evening climaxed on a high note with a bouquet and garter toss, a vote of thanks from Lennox, and closing remarks from the emcee. The newly-weds honeymooned at the Eden Gardens Wellness Resort & Spa.
