A Love Affair With Fabric
Local designer Angella Wilkinson Scott spun needles to create the fab shift for Diageo Spirits & Wines Brand Manager Nasha-Monique Douglas’ appearance at the 17th staging of the Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards. AW Fashion scores a one-on-one with the designer.

All Woman Fashion (AWF): Describe Angella Wilkinson Scott in five words.
Angella Wilkinson Scott (AWS): Creative, classy, caring, fun-loving, no-nonsense.
AWF: Tell us about the woman you design for
AWS: The woman I design for has an appreciation for fabric. She is not afraid to explore new styles, colours, and prints. Basically someone who appreciates my sense of style and who allows me to express my creativity.
AWF: Who is your dream client?
AWS: My dream client is not specific or identifiable, there’s no one person in particular that I’d like to work with. So, any woman who will allow me to take her out of her box and introduce new ideas, design, fabric to their collection. I would, however, love to design for Calvin Klein.
AWF: When did you start designing?
AWS: I started designing about six years ago after leaving the clothing retail business.
AWF: Explain the design process.
AWS: The design process begins with an attractive piece of fabric. Once I see the fabric, the ideas flow. There are times when my clients will give me an overview of the event or function for which the piece is needed, and I then conceptualise the design, incorporating fabric texture and print.
AWF: Why clothing design?
AWS: I have always had a love affair with fabric. Anxiety takes over when I see the many forms and beautiful outfits the fabric drapes. Clothing is all about fabric. The right fabric must be matched to the client, design and occasion. It gives me great pleasure to see my clients’ satisfaction when I deliver a piece.
AWF: Where can we purchase Safidah pieces?
AWS: My pieces can be found at Angella’s, located on 7 Merrick Avenue, Elle Collection, and from the Safidah Atelier at 5 Rudolph Burke Avenue in State Garden, off Washington Boulevard.
