Stacia Davidson’s Yaad Trendz
Yaad Trendz stylist Stacia Davidson is creating waves on the local fashion scene. And with her one-of-a kind Neckstaz line, she has also been attracting a lot of attention in another area.
“I refer to myself as a dream warrior as I will fight relentlessly to ensure my dreams are realised,” she said.
“Making my brand Yaad Trendz successful was one of the dreams that kept me going.”
She started Yaad Trendz in 2008, and now, with most of her materials locally sourced, she has embarked on handmade multi-strand neck apparel that can either be braided or fringed.
“Neckstaz is a collection of stylishly bold neckwear made primarily from jersey knit/T-shirt fabric,” she said.
Through upcycling, Davidson has managed to accentuate her pieces using wood, copper, beads, as well as other materials.
“Our aim is to create personality or conversation pieces that will add some magnetism to our customers,” she said.
She said it was while at the University of the West Indies that she explored her creative flair, creating outfits to express her style.
“I would transform clothes that I already had and turn them into totally new designs or just add some spunk to them,” she said.
Soon the upcycling of her clothes became a hobby. Coupled with the fantastic reviews of her friends, it soon dawned on her that she could make a business out of her idea.
And so her clothes soon became worn by models at fashion shows held on campus.
Since taking the plunge to working full time in her business, she has grown leaps and bounds.
“I had to overcome a lot in order to turn my talent into a viable business. In the end I had to make a conscious decision to stop making excuses as to why I couldn’t start my own business. I had to stop with the victim mentality I had developed,” she explained.
