Paula Hurlock’s Indigo Soul
Many women on a day trip to the beach will wear a cover-up or a wrap. However, how many know about the versatility of the kaftan? Not just suited for beach wear, this multi-functional piece can be worn to evening events as well.
Paula Hurlock, a daughter of Montego Bay, is the owner and designer of Indigo Soul Kaftans.
While growing up, it was evident that Hurlock had an artistic flair.
“I remember I used to draw from fashion magazines during the summer holidays,” she said.
Her sense of fashion didn’t change years later, and even while attending the University of the West Indies, when her friends were rocking jeans and a T-shirt, she would be decked out in the most extravagant of pieces in an effort to show her sense of individuality.
“To this day I do not wear T-shirts,” she pointed out.
In 2010 she decided to capture the versatility of the kaftan by creating her own fashion line, Indigo Soul.
With this, she creates hundreds of these sexy, sheer tops, which she said are great for concealing those extra pounds here and there.
“The ease, simplicity, comfort and elegance of a kaftan is what inspired me to come up with the Indigo Soul Jamaica line,” she said.
“I believe that island women need something appropriate for their tropical climate, as well as something colourful and vibrant that represents their innate island-vibe.”
She is also currently working on her Cosmic Collection, which will include a line of houseware, jewellery and clothing pieces for both men and women.
