VOWS – Together At Last
How They Met…
Karen Jacob and Phillip Ramson happened to be right in Cupid’s sights one Wednesday afternoon in 2011. The scene was the Chas E Ramson warehouse, where Ramson is a sales manager, and Jacob, a frequent shopper of bulk-diapers for her baby daughter, Sarah.
Ramson’s curiosity was piqued as he observed Jacob at the counter and decided to strike up a conversation. Their first encounter was formal, yet friendly enough to encourage Jacob to send Ramson a friend request on the popular social media interface, Facebook.
Ramson was not only prompt in accepting the request, but messaged her right away to know when she’d next be visiting the warehouse. When Jacob returned to shop, Ramson invited her to the Appleton Grill-Off being held that weekend at Hope Gardens.
A manager at Hope Zoo at the time, Jacob agreed to briefly leave work and meet him. After their first date, Ramson was away on business for two weeks, but made it up to Jacob immediately after returning. Within two weeks of his return, Jacob had met all of Ramson’s family members, and a new love blossomed.
The Engagement…
Ramson, a man of tradition, visited the home of Jacob’s parents to ask for her hand in marriage after an 18-month-long courtship. Ramson visited his girlfriend’s parents in January 2014, hoping to wait until Valentine’s Day to pop the big question.
Alas, his romantic plan was revisited when Jacob’s mother, Audrey, warned that keeping the exciting news a secret might be too difficult a task. The next day, Ramson went down on one knee and proposed to Jacob, whose loud “yes!” resonated throughout the house.
The Ceremony…
On October 4, 2014, the couple’s loved ones from Canada and the United States joined their friends and family at the church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in St Ann’s Bay, St Ann, to witness the exchange of vows. The ravishing bride was escorted up the aisle by her father, Dr Lennox Jacob, to the strains of Céline Dion’s Incredible, sung by friend Mario Evon.
Jacob’ cousin, Gabrielle Singh, took guests through the time capsule ceremony in which letters written by the couple and their mothers were placed in a box that will remain sealed until their fifth wedding anniversary. Monsignor Herbert Panton and Deacon Derrick Foster declared the lovebirds husband and wife in front of 130 cherished guests.
The Reception…
Coconuts Villa in Discovery Bay hosted the post-nuptial celebrations against the white sand and pristine blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. Wedding planners Petals and Promises, decorator Stephen McDonald and Gordene Jacas from Tai Flora brought to life the bride’s rustic, yet elegant, vintage-feel wedding theme, draping the venue in burlap and lace with teal and fuschia accents.
Damian ‘Beechy’ McGann, master of ceremonies, formally introduced the new husband and wife, making way for an evening of celebration to the sounds of Musical Choice. Guests enjoyed two live-cooking buffet stations and a seafood buffet from the kitchens of Carnivore Grill ahead of cutting into the three-tier wedding cake created by pâtissière Nyla D’Andrea.
The love between the two newly united families was shown after the couple performed their first dance to Beneath You’re Beautiful by Labrinth featuring Emeli Sandé, and joined their parents for the parents’ dance to the same song. Halfway through the song, the bride’s father, Dr Lennox Jacob, handed her to Ramson’s father, John, while the groom partnered with his mother-in-law, Dr Audrey Jacob.
The newly-weds celebrated their union with their nearest and dearest, before dividing a relaxing four-day honeymoon between Sandals Royal Plantation Resort and the Half Moon Hotel.
