Annual Muminar helps mothers unveil the real self
UNVEILING the real woman beneath the mask was what over 600 women did recently when they gathered at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel to share their experiences at Muminar, a seminar put on for mothers by Young Mummy Diaries.
The annual event, held under the themed “Beneath the Mask”, Unveiling the real You was intended to help women identify their weaknesses and conquer them.
“The main focus was to allow women to identify the masks they hide beneath and find a way to move pass that mask, which of course limits them and keeps them from digging deep and living an authentic life,” explained Tamiann Young, founder of Young Mummy Diaries.
In her address to the large turnout, Young said the event was being used as a medium to create a space to support women and help mothers maximise their true potential.
“The role of mother is that of being a nurturer and in Jamaica, most homes are led by women. It is the mandate of the Young Mummy Diaries brand to always host events that feed back into the women or mother, to help them on their lifetime journey as a mother,” Young said.
Young further added that her team is focused on using events of such nature to inspire the nation and by extension the world.
“Like Message Music, we are a Message movement,” she said, while urging more experienced mothers to support their younger peers, instead of being judgemental.
Motivational speaker and internationally certified health and lifestyle coach Rese Carter, who was guest speaker at the event, encouraged mothers to rid themselves of their masks, though the process may be painful.
“Sometimes our mask is so tight that when we are removing it our skin will peel, but the healing will take place,” said Carter, herself a mother.
Carter added that each person has a mask to deal with, but as mothers they should be strong for themselves even if they stand alone.
“Pay attention to the people around, they too wear masks. Nothing is more painful than believing a person is with you when only to discover that it was all a lie. Remember there are always clues,” Carter said.
The event featured testimonials from different mothers about their struggles and how they were able to overcome them. There were also financial, baby, women and maternity products on display while the CPJ Mummy Bar enticed with its offerings of non-alcoholic drinks.
