Women’s networking group builds membership
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Intent on building membership as well as capacity, the networking group Women Entrepreneurs Network of the Caribbean (WENC) recently visited this south central town to meet with businesswomen, including farmers.
Head of the Jamaica chapter Ethnie Miller Simpson said the longer-term aim was to provide training and know-how for women in business.
“Our intention is to meet with women business owners across the island… the intention is to first of all build our membership; we need to have critical mass of women we are going to be assisting,” she told Jamaica Observer Central during a workshop at the Rural Agricultural Development Authority office in Santa Cruz.
The network was launched last year after receiving a grant from a fund administered by the US Department of State Office of Global Women’s Issues.
It aims to assist women-led businesses in the Caribbean through advocacy, training, networking, identifying and sharing best practices and resources.
