Mission Catwalk | Episode 2 …takes on menswear
The next generation of Caribbean fashion designing talents stitched their menswear designs in episode two of the highly contested show. Filmed in Jamaica, season three of Mission Catwalk has a unique component, with the theme ‘from runway to retail’.
The winning designs each week will be on sale each week at Lee’s Fifth Avenue locations in Kingston. Winning episode two was Barbadian Alexis Campbell, who won the challenge to design a garment for Grammy award winning entertainer and philanthropist Shaggy. Shaggy joined resident judges, menswear designer Carlton Brown, Novia McDonald-Whyte and host Keneea Linton-George to select the winning design. On winning the second episode, Campbell beamed with excitement, sharing, “Winning this challenge meant a lot to me because back home in Barbados, I was first known as a menswear designer, my first collection being strictly for men, but after that year it was strictly female for me. I had to show them I still had it in me.”
The Caribbean-based contestants were given three categories to work with: daytime public appearance, red-carpet event or on-stage performance outfit for the celebrity. “When I first heard of the challenge, my first thought was to outfit him in something that is very Caribbean,” Campbell shared. “The majority of the look consists of cotton blends, the pants being suiting and the jacket, suede.”
The winning look can be purchased at Lee’s Fifth Avenue stores in Kingston.
