Why are men afraid to commit?
IT is believed that women, in general, find it much easier to commit to relationships than men. And this inability to commit can cause serious problems for the woman who finds herself getting attached.
But why are men afraid to commit, to take the big plunge into the blissful world of monogamy?
Below some guys spill the reasons.
Dean Simpson, 45:
Most of the times when men commit they still end up going outside the relationship so they don’t want to tie themselves to one woman. So he might commit to one woman and still ‘go road’. It’s the same as going to church — men just say they are not ready to get saved so they won’t have to commit to it. But when it comes to a relationship, he still wants a woman at his house because he wants someone there who will wash, cook and clean, so what he really wants is a helper, someone he does not have to pay and can still sleep with. But while he has her there he is still going road.
Kevaughn Benjamin, 22:
Because they are afraid of putting themselves out there and getting hurt. And there are a lot of women out there, when you check out their backgrounds, you realise you don’t want to settle down with them. So you move on to somebody else and it might seem as if you don’t want to commit but it’s really not so.
Dave Bartley, 22:
Some are afraid because of lack of trust. Something may have happened in the past and they don’t trust women. Then there is influence from friends and personal experiences.
Marvin Edgar, 28:
Persons see where others in relationships have been hurt and as the saying goes ‘once bitten twice fraid’. So you honestly want to protect your heart. For some of us it’s greed why we don’t want to commit. So we have our patty but we want to taste other patties. And there are some men who prefer to live in common-law unions because they can walk away at any time. Sometimes men feel that if they are committed, they can’t hang with their friends, etc. But real men want to commit.
David Marriot, 22:
We should put the blame on society who tells us that men should have nuff women. But we try more than once but the temptation is out there. I guess if we have peer support it would be better.
Kishwayne Wade, 22:
Men are afraid to commit because they are afraid of responsibility, or they may not be confident enough to get into a committed relationship as they don’t feel they can remain faithful.
