Jamaican model scores at regional competition
Twenty-six year old Jamaican model, Keisha Campbell, placed second in the recently concluded Miss North American/Caribbean Runway model search, beating 18 other contestants from the region.
‘It was a good experience for me and I had a lot of fun. Being the only Jamaican who placed in the top 5 was quite an achievement for me’, said Campbell, who is signed to local modeling agency Miguel Models.
Held at the Hedonism II hotel in Negril, the competition was organised by Pro Links Inc. which is based in New York. It was staged over the Heroes’ holiday weekend.
Campbell, a crowd favourite at the finals of the competition won for herself prizes including cash, a trophy, a digital photo shoot portfolio, swimwear, shoes, and a full-page feature in a New York-based magazine among other prizes. She will also be represented by Pro Links Inc. in the USA.
Additionally she has been invited to participate in Pro Links’ First Friday Fashion Fair which is scheduled to be held on November 7 at the Millennium Broadway hotel in Manhattan, New York.
Modeling professionally for the past three years, Campbell, a former student of the Dinthill Technical high school, worked as a sales representative for six years. She held positions at Russell’s Ltd and Collectibles before moving into doing promotions for the Cigarette Company of Jamaica.
If her face looks familiar to you, its because she has been featured on the Sashi 2001 fashion events, as well as Lena British’s fashion showcase, and the television commercial for Red Stripe Beer. Campbell also had a recurring role in the local soap ‘Royal Palm Estate’ which is aired on CVM-TV. She portrayed the character ‘Irie’, a web page designer.
The 2003 Miss North American Caribbean Runaway Model search was won by Portia Chery, a St. Lucian who resides in New York. Marie J. Massena from Haiti placed third, while Denethia Durgin from Philadelphia placed fourth. Guyanese Adelina Carvalhal completed the top five.
