Anticipating Caribbean Fashionweek November 6-9
There’s about three weeks to go before the staging of what promises to be the best Caribbean Fashion week yet. More than 200 local and international designers, production crews, showroom operators, buyers and media personnel have already confirmed their attendance. The four-day extravaganza will see some of the world’s finest stars of international runway including Pulse’s twin sensations Nadine Willis and Jaunel McKenzie.
The week will include exhibitions, seminars and workshops aimed at preparing designers to capitalise on the increased buyer interest anticipated at next year’s show scheduled for the new date, June 2004.
Some of the favourite designers expected to participate include: Roger Gary (Guyana/New York), Claudia Pegus, Robert Young, Gregory Mills, and Zero Gravity from Trinidad and Tobago, Mutamba, Moncrieffe, Biggy, the Mushroom, Uzuri, SIIM, and Pat Wright from Jamaica. Nefertari from Barbados, Corinne Baesberg from St Lucia, several newcomers from New York, Miami, London, Guadeloupe, the Bahamas and other countries inside and outside the region.
Newcomers include the strong Barbadian contingent of Christopher Morris, Renee Luke, Rahaj Paul, Avark, Harold Davis and Wayne Smith.
From Trinidad, Reshma Cooke and Sonia Mack are some of the designers showing for the first time, as is Yardman Style out of New York.
Gary Williams, who operates one of the leading showrooms in Manhattan and has attended each event since inception, has also confirmed his attendance.
Caribbean Fashion Week was launched in November 2000 and first staged in 2001. It has already become recognised as the main event for showcasing the region’s best designs. Through Fashion Television and major media around the world it is seen in more than 100 countries.
Pulse’s CEO, Kingsley Cooper, states his goal as that of seeing “CFW become a calendar event as the Fashion Week in Paris, New York, or London, which attracts the movers and shakers of the fashion industry around the world.”
This is the schedule for the Week:
* November 6 – Opening Gala at 7:30pm
* November 7 – Press conference at 9:30 am followed by the viewing of an exhibition of exclusive designs from the region. Three seminars and workshops are also scheduled for late Friday morning and into the afternoon.
At 6:15 pm the first of five runway shows should be kicking off. Nightly after parties will culminate with the Smirnoff feature on Saturday night (November 8) at Villa Ronai.
