KINGSTON, Jamaica — A fire at the Petrojam refinery on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston has been extinguished, with the company confirming that no one was injured and there has been no impact on fuel supplies.

In a statement Friday morning, Petrojam General Manager Danville Walker said all employees who were on duty at the time of the incident have been accounted for.

“First, all of our staff members are accounted for; there were no injuries to any of our staff on duty. Our employee support team is on site to provide any additional assistance,” he said.

The fire, which occurred Thursday night, was caused by an operational incident and was contained to a section of the refinery, the company said. Petrojam’s emergency response teams responded quickly and brought the blaze under control.

Cooling operations continued into Friday morning as the company began an initial assessment of the damage as part of a wider investigation into what happened.

Several operational units remain shut down as a precaution, but Petrojam said the refinery continues to operate safely and reliably.

Walker assured the public that fuel storage and availability remain unaffected, with regular supplies continuing from its Kingston and Montego Bay loading racks.
