Speid’s Cavalier announces acquisition of Butler’s Chapelton Maroons home
CLARENDON, Jamaica — Cavalier Football Club says it has acquired Turner’s Oval in Clarendon as its “new home”.
The Jamaica Premier League (JPL) made the announcement on Monday in a post on Instagram with an image of the facility.
Cavalier president Rudolph Speid confirmed the development.
“Yup” was Speid’s terse response to an Observer Online query on the matter.
When asked if Cavalier will now be a member of the Clarendon Football Association, Speid said “Nope”.
Interestingly, Turner’s Oval is also the home turf of Speid’s rival Craig Butler’s Chapelton Maroons, which also competes in the JPL.
Speid and Butler have been at loggerheads for years, which has spilled over into the courts with the Cavalier boss recently filing a defamatory lawsuit against the Phoenix head.
Cavalier, founded in 1962 by Leighton Duncan and also known as the Duncan Destroyers, has been using the government facility, Stadium East, as its home ground.
