Exciting news for St James Central
Dear Editor,
The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has announced the extension of the Montego Bay Metro bus route, set to enhance public transportation in St James Central. This eagerly awaited service will commence on April 22, 2025, providing vital connections for residents along Salt Spring Road, Green Pond, Green Pond Grove, and Cornwall Courts.
The dedicated bus route will start at the intersection of Harbour Street and Union Street, terminating at Green Pond Primary School. This extension, requested by Member of Parliament Heroy Clarke, aims to improve accessibility for commuters and students alike.
Residents are particularly excited about the benefits this new route will bring. It offers an affordable and efficient means of commuting to work in Montego Bay, reducing travel time and easing road congestion. Students attending local schools, including Green Pond Primary, Green Pond High, Farm Primary and Infant, and Albion Primary and Infant, will enjoy safe and convenient transportation.
The fare structure is designed to be accessible, with adult fares set at $100 for the Green Pond to Montego Bay route and concessions at $50 for children, students, the disabled, and seniors. This initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to improving transportation options in rural Jamaica.
Local leaders have hailed the new bus route as a game changer for the community, enhancing connectivity and fostering economic development. As the launch date approaches, residents look forward to the positive impact this service will have on their daily lives, paving the way for a brighter future in St James Central.
