Manchester Kite Festival returns on Easter Monday
MANCHESTER, Jamaica – The third annual staging of the Manchester Kite Festival and Family Fun Day is scheduled for this Easter Monday, with the organisers promising a fulfilled experience.
Mikaylia Haldane of H2events solutions told the Observer Online that the event was created to bring back family fun after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It was conceptualised in 2023 out [of] the stark void for wholesome family entertainment in the parish of Manchester following the global pandemic. We organised the event in an effort to reenergise the fading Easter kite flying tradition, provide wholesome family entertainment, all while building stronger community relations with free health checks for patrons by the Southern Regional Health Authority, vending opportunities for small businesses in Mandeville and providing a $50,000 cash prize for the person who has the best kite,” she said.
She explained that for the past two years the events were staged on the outskirts of Mandeville, with Minister Kevin Downswell and Alaine providing exhilarating performances each year.
“This year, we have responded to numerous requests from our patrons and moved the show to Manchester High School, smack in the middle of the town, and patrons can expect a high-energy performance from reggae sensation Yaksta, bigger cash prize for the best kite as well as a huge domino tournament. This year the best kite will receive US$500, and the winner of the domino tournament will receive a $50,000 cash prize. This year we have a spectacular show planned for all the patrons, non-stop rides for the children, games for adults with something guaranteed for everybody. Come join us on Easter Monday April 21, 2025, at Manchester High School to make those kite fly,” said Haldane.
