More murals for MoBay
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Montego Bay will be getting more murals like the ones that grace the walls of the Reggae Sumfest venue.
“We are now going to launch MoBay Murals. This will be in partnership with the team that completed the Reggae Sumfest Wall of Fame, which is the mural located at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex,” announced Mayor of Montego Bay Richard Vernon.
He was speaking Monday during a press conference to outline the St James Municipal Corporation’s plans for the next fiscal year.
The mayor stressed that local talent will not be left out.
“We will have the experts, the very talented artists doing their thing. The ones here who are not yet at that level will be working under their guidance. But, at the end of the day, I’m sure that their capacity will improve through interaction and working together,” he disclosed.
While not providing details about the initiative, Vernon did provide some insight into selection of the areas that will be transformed by artwork.
“They will be conspicuous areas, and perhaps some inconspicuous ones. They will be like discoveries, so when you walk into a lane you’ll find this artwork and you’ll say, ‘I didn’t know that this existed here!’ “ he said.
The mayor anticipates that this will have a positive impact on tourism.
“It will give you that little adventure where Montego Bay is concerned. As a visitor to our city, when you are moving around within the space and you identify an artwork in the city of Montego Bay, you want to take a picture of it, it comes with a GPS [Global Positioning System] tag that you were in Montego Bay,” he said.
