Bob Marley One Love charity continues to support schools in need
Franklyn Town, Clan Carthy and New Providence Primary were the recipients of the 2025 Bob Marley One Love football charity as organiser Clive “Busy” Campbell delivered a printer and bags for school.
Franklyn Town and Clan Carthy carry special sentiment for Campbell, who grew up in East Kingston where both schools are located. New Providence, located in the Barbican area, is said to be in dire need of support.
“Clan Carthy is dear to me as I used to attend Maranatha Gospel Hall which is next door, in the Franklyn Town area, while New Providence is in a bad state,” Campbell told the Jamaica Observer.
“All I can do is try and help because everybody need help at times. I have seen a lot of corruption happening in Jamaica and the world, so all my energy is to help the younger ones to come out the right way,” he added.
The Bob Marley One Love Football Festival is a charity event in Jamaica that uses football to raise funds for various causes, including basic schools in need of equipment.
The festival, now in its 43rd year, has become known for offering a day of entertainment, games and giveaways, with proceeds going towards supporting various schools and other charitable initiatives.
The event was held on Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium.
“The game wasn’t well attended but the good thing is that the next one will be coming up on Labour Day, and I hope we get support because we will be honouring some stalwarts from football and integral in our culture at ‘Bring Back The Love’ matches,” Campbell pointed out.
The 2025 honorees were Bongo Herman, Tarrus Riley, Tanya Stephens and Ernie Smith for their contributions to the music industry.
Christian Ambassadors won the Bob Marley One Love trophy, defeating Entertainers on goal difference.
Campbell, who made a name for himself while playing for Santos and also organised the Labour Day “Bring Back The Love” football charity, thanked the sponsors that assisted with the One Love festival.
“I just wanted to say thanks to all the sponsors that made it possible,” said a grateful Campbell.
He praised The Bob Marley Foundation, Tuff Gong, Puma, Sun Island, Sports Development Foundation, Western Sports, RJR Communications Group, Sports Gear, KFC, Violence Prevention Alliance, NewsTalk, Best Dressed Chicken, Patsy Lyn Catering, Pure Country, Wisynco and Sunshine Snacks.
