‘IT A STREAM?’ Beenie Man announces his own takeover of New York
Beenie Man has recognised the successes of fellow Jamaican entertainers Vybz Kartel and Buju Banton, both of whom sold out shows in New York on two consecutive days.
Reggae superstar Buju Banton performed the feat last year at the UBS Arena in Queens during his Overcomer tour, while Vybz Kartel pulled in over 39,000 fans over two days in the 20,000 capacity Barclays Center in Brooklyn over the weekend.
The ever-controversial Beenie Man, who has been beefing with Vybz Kartel over the King of the Dancehall title, used the opportunity to advertise his own show which will be held on May 24 at the UBS Arena over the Memorial Day weekend.
In a video uploaded on Monday, the self-proclaimed King of the Dancehall thanked Jamaicans who supported the culture and dancehall ahead of his own event in the Big Apple.
“It a stream?” Beenie Man asked. “We nuh inna no argument.”
Sitting on the trunk of a white Benz and surrounded by his fans and friends, he hailed the achievements of his peers in New York City, while announcing his own takeover.
Beenie Man: As a Jamaican, we never shy, ah lie
Gang: Never tell ah lie
Beenie Man: Buju Banton mash up New York, ah lie?
Gang: Never tell a lie
Beenie Man: Vybz Kartel mash up New York, ah lie

Beenie Man: Zaggazaggazow, now, now.
The reaction to the video on social media was immediate and vitriolic.
One fan wrote: ‘SYM, tell badmind fishiniman sell out 2 show back to back nuh, him can’t do that, all when him ticket price is 20 dollars.”
Another wrote: “Beenie, just straight up say congratulations to Vybz Kartel for selling out the Barclays 2 nights in a row back to back and forth putting on a phenomenal show, that’ s it and that’s all…is that so hard to do?”
Another accused Beenie Man of copying Vybz Kartel, saying mockingly: “Kartel so great all him rivals a support him and a use him style.”
Yet another said: “anytime somebody ask me what badmind is, I’ll show them this video”.
Some supported Beenie Man as well, with one fan saying: “At the end of the day, Beenie will always put in a show, give him his flowers”.
Another added: “Beenie a my artist from mi young until now. Never change or sell out yet.”
