Capleton to blaze at St Mary Kite and Food Fest
Dancehall act Capleton will be returning to his home parish of St Mary on Easter Sunday, April 20, for the St Mary Kite and Food Festival.
The event will be held at Buccaneers in Port Maria.
Supporting Capleton will be Jada Kingdom, Jamal, Agent Sasco, Kevin Downswell, Skippa, Bellweatha, and TrapQween delivering everything from dancehall fire to gospel soul. It’s a musical mash-up guaranteed to keep you dancing ‘til sunset.
Capleton said he is pleased to be part of the event and hopes to showcase his vast catalogue to his fans.
“Sometimes I don’t get to perform before my hard-core fans because of different commitments, but this occasion presents the right opportunity and I will not disappoint my fans. St Mary is my place, and when we turn up it will be mad things,” the artiste shared, promising new music among his set.
Spokesman for the show Sean “Contractor” Edwards said the event is something that St Mary has been looking forward to and he anticipates good support.
“What started as a fun idea has turned into a major community tradition. Every year more people show up, ready to launch their most creative kites or show off their kite surfing skills. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro, there’s space in the sky for you,” he said.
First prize in the event will see the winner taking home $50,000, second prize $30,000 and third prize $20,000.
He explained: “Kiteing is a very fun thing to do as it allows individuals to showcase their creativity by coming up with some of the most amazing designs. It is a family event where all members of a family can participate. It’s all about community, family, and fun. From great-grandparents to toddlers, this festival is designed to bring everyone together. Think of it as a joyful reunion of the entire island — full of laughter, music, and memories waiting to be made. Kids will be in paradise with unlimited access to fun rides, bouncy castles, and a perimeter train – all included in their entry ticket!”
There will be rides for the children free all day as all ages can enjoy the Sunday afternoon with the various activities.
