Racing stumble against Mt Pleasant in JPL
ST ANN, Jamaica — Racing United stumbled in their quest for a play-off place in the Jamaica Premier League after they were beaten 2-1 by leaders Mt Pleasant FA in their rescheduled third round game played at Drax Hall Sports Complex in St Ann on Thursday.
Racing United are one of three teams chasing the final play-off spot in the play-offs and Thursday’s loss left the Anthony Patrick- coached team in eighth place, tied with Tivoli Gardens, both on 38 points, one point behind Waterhouse FC.
It was the third loss of the season to Mt Pleasant FA for Racing United after they were beaten 4-0 and 3-2 in the two previous meetings this season.
Mt Pleasant FC who are a win away from securing an automatic semi-final spot, was handed an early lead when Racing United conceded a goal in the fifth minute, but Ranaldo Biggs equalised in the 27th minute.
Raheem Edwards scored his 10th goal of the season, in the 42nd minute to lead Mt Pleasant FA to their 24th win of the season from 33 games.
Edwards was the fourth Mt Pleasant FA player to score in double digits.
Meanwhile on Wednesday, defending champions Cavalier SC edged Portmore United 1-0 in their rescheduled third round game played at Sabina Park.
Shaquille Stein scored the winning goal in the 55th minute as Cavalier SC won back-to – back games for the first time since December 2024, as they improved to 56 points, seven points clear of sixth- placed Waterhouse FC and four behind Portmore United.
