STETHS in command vs title holders Manchester in Headley Cup final
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – Odane Binns stroked an attractive, unbeaten 70 following excellent work by the bowlers as St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) ended day one in command of the ISSA/GraceKennedy General Insurance Headley Cup cricket final against champions Manchester High.
In reply to Manchester High’s 117, St Elizabeth Technical were 157-4 when play ended 5:30 pm on Wednesday, half-an-hour before the scheduled close due to fading sunlight at STETHS Sports Complex.
Scores: Manchester High 117; STETHS 157-4.
STETHS are to resume on Thursday’s second day leading by 40 runs with six wickets standing.
Ryan Lyttleton, on five runs, is the other not out batsman for STETHS.
Binns, a Jamaica age-group batsman, anchored the STETHS innings after captain and national youth team opener Tyriek Bryan fell at 43-1 for a stroke-filled, 30-ball 37 which included six fours and a six.
The right-handed Binns, who has so far hit 10 fours off 107 deliveries, got support from Shahiri Jadoo with 20.
Bowling for Manchester High, off- spinner Barrington Simpson has so far led the way with 2-36.
Earlier, defending champions Manchester High, who won the toss, were dismissed for 117.
Fast bowlers Delantae Scott (3-17) and Adrian Silvera (3-23) and spinner Bryan (2-31) combined to undermine the Manchester High batting on a pitch which exhibited uneven bounce during the first half of the day’s play.
