RED CARD
Wolmer’s star out of Carifta team
Gary Card, the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ Athletics Championships (Champs) Class One 100m champion has been withdrawn from the Jamaica team to the Carifta Games in Port of Spain, Trinidad, later this month.
It is suspected that Card was withdrawn over injury concerns after he hobbled across the finish line in the final at Champs on March 26th and did not show up for the 200m.
Card’s replacement was among a number of adjustments made to the team as the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association released an updated list on Monday.
Rhiana Lewis, who was originally named for the women’s Under 20 400m hurdles, and triple jumper Jaeda Robinson were also removed from the list.
Jamal Stephenson and Antonio Powell were named as the representatives in the boys’ Under-20 100m after Shaquane Gordon was also pulled from the flat sprint and will only contest the 110m hurdles event.
Nickaro Johnson was added in the boys-Under 17 high jump, joining Selethel Johnson, and Khi Anthony Hall will also contest the Under-17 triple jump along with Amani Phillips.
The Carifta Games runs from April 19 to 21.
