Love Lane man charged for lighting church on fire
FORTY-YEAR-OLD Farouk Forrester of Love Lane, Port Antonio, Portland, has been charged with arson in relation to the burning of a church on Allan Avenue, Port Antonio last Saturday.
Reports from the Port Antonio Police are that at about 6:30 am, residents of the Allan Avenue community saw fire coming from the front door of a church and alerted the relevant authorities. Upon their arrival, Forrester was seen throwing papers through the front door of the church, reportedly in an attempt to spread the flames.
The flames were extinguished and Forrester was taken to the hospital. He has since been taken into police custody, and his court date is being finalised.
Damage to the building is estimated at $250,000.
