Racing close gap in JPL playoff race
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Racing United closed the gap on the play-off spots in the Jamaica Premier League to one point after beating fellow promoted team Chapelton Maroons 3-0 in their third round game played at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Monday.
Racing improved to 48 points and are in eighth place, trailing Tivoli Gardens on goal-difference, and are a point behind sixth-placed Waterhouse but have two games in hand.
Javaughn Cole gave Racing the lead in the 30th minute, Nickyle Ellis made the scores 2-0 in the 47th minute and Tajay Grant added a third in the 80th minute.
Despite the loss, Chapelton Maroons are still in ninth place on goal-difference over Dunbeholden FC, both on 33 points, but only four points away from the relegation zone.
Also on Monday, Arnett Gardens stayed in third place after playing out a 0-0 draw with seventh-placed Tivoli in the second game of the double header at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
