Falmouth United seek to restore lead in JFF Championships
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — Falmouth United will hope to reclaim the lead in Zone B of the Jamaica Football Federation Championships on Tuesday when they host last-placed St Bess United in a rescheduled game at the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium, set to start at 3:30 pm.
Falmouth United slipped into second place after Treasure Beach FC edged Reno FC 1-0 on Saturday and took the lead on goal-difference, both on 23 points but with Falmouth United having Tuesday’s game in hand where a draw would be enough to restore their advantage.
Treasure Beach were winning their fourth straight game and were gifted the win after Reno FC conceded a first-half own goal and fell four points behind the leaders in the race for semi-final places.
Duncans United will host Mt Pleasant FA juniors in another rescheduled game at the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Meadforest FC resumed the lead in Zone A after beating Tru Juice FC 2-1 at Constant Spring on Saturday while the hard-charging Spanish Town Police moved up to fourth place with their fourth straight win, getting by Baptist Alliance 3-1, avenging a first round 2-1 loss.
Justin Powell scored in the 35th minute and Raheem Porter doubled the advantage in the 43rd minute for Meadforest FC before Curtel Lawes cut the deficit for Tru Juice in the 70th minute.
The win saw Meadforest FC move to 22 points, one point ahead of Lime Hall FC who had to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Grays Inn at Drax Hall.
Rasheed Dennis gave Grays Inn the lead in the 47th minute but Tahjae Sharpe restored parity five minutes later in the 52nd minute.
Spanish Town Police took the lead over Baptist Alliance when Jordan Elliston scored in the 29th minute but Orlando Ricketts equalised in the 70th minute before the visitors hit back with two goals.
Shamar Harris restored Spanish Town Police’s lead in the 78th minute and Leonard James cemented the points when he scored in the 87th minute.
