Bleachers free before 2:30 pm at Grand Slam Track Meet; eight new champions to be crowned Sunday
KINGSTON, Jamaica —Patrons will once more be able to access the bleachers section of the National Stadium for free before 2:30 pm Sunday, the final day of the inaugural Grand Slam Track Meet.
Gates will open at 12:00 pm, with the Inter Secondary Schools Sports Association’s (ISSA) races set to start at 12:30 pm.
Fans who show up early will have a chance to meet some of the fastest humans on the planet, with Grand Slam Track™ Racers & Challengers who competed on Friday and Saturday set to conduct a Meet & Greet starting at 1:15.
Fans are encouraged to bring items for their heroes to sign.
The pre-Slam entertainment will be concluded with live musical performances from Vanessa Bling, Teejay, and Grand Slam Track™’s very own DJ Skribble.
The schedule of races for Sunday is below:
12 Noon – Gates open
12:30 p.m. – Boys 4x100m Relay
12:40 p.m. – Girls 4x100m Relay
12:50 p.m. – Boys 4x400m Relay
1:05 p.m. – Girls 4x400m Relay
1:15 p.m. – Racer Meet & Greet
1:30 p.m. – Musical Performances from Vanessa Bling & Teejay
2:30 p.m. – Grand Slam Track™ Kingston Day 3
4:30 p.m. – Slam Champions Celebration Ceremony
Saturday’s competition saw Matthew Hudson-Smith, Diribe Welteji, Kenny Bednarek, and Gabby Thomas victorious as the first four Slam Champions in the league’s history. Each took home US$100,000 for their effort.
Sunday’s slate will see another eight superstars claim the title of Slam Champion, with each race on the schedule set to decide who takes home US$100,000.
Across the first two days of competition, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Grant Fisher, Ejgayehu Taye, Tia Jones, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Dylan Beard and Alison dos Santos were all victorious, and they each take 12 points into their respective second races on today’s final day.
