In tribute to Ivan Green
Dear Editor,
Marcus Aurelius, the Roman emperor and philosopher, once said, “Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be, just be one.” This statement encapsulates the life of veteran businessman and justice of the peace (JP) Ivan Green.
I deeply admired him, for his thoughts were honest, without prejudice, and for the good of humanity.
How do I express the amazing essence and spirit of Ivan Green? His decades of service as a businessman and justice of the peace to his beloved town of Christiana is legendary. He had a fairly quiet demeanour, but he communicated well with individuals from different social backgrounds and all ages. Many do not know how quietly and without fanfare or remuneration Green served the people of Christiana as a justice of the peace.
His passion for his community was tireless. He had a fire for fairness and justice. He was generous with his time, and many people, including myself, benefited from his wise advice and counsel.
I will miss him for his comforting and encouraging words. His passing has left an enormous void within the Christiana business community and the Christiana Association of Justices of the Peace. He was a role model and mentor to many of us as younger justices of the peace.
We shall deeply miss him, and I pray that his cherished memory will provide comfort to his beloved family, especially his wife of over 50 years.
Rest well, JP Green, you have played a marvellous innings, and the cheers from the grandstand will never be muted. “A suh mi know wi lose a fren!”
The word is always love!
