WATCH: Bail application made for Mandeville licensed firearm holder, judge to decide on April 14
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Patrick Thompson, the licensed firearm holder who is accused of killing two women and injuring three others in February, was further remanded when he made his third court appearance in the Manchester Parish Court on Wednesday.
A bail application for Thompson was made by his attorneys Peter Champagnie KC and Samoi Campbell on Wednesday after raw CCTV footage of the February 23 incident was made available Tuesday evening.
Presiding Judge Monique Harrison remanded Thompson to return to court on April 14 when she is to give her decision on the bail application.
Champagnie argued that the defence maintains its position that Thompson was attacked and provided a medical document and photographs showing chest injuries to his client following the incident.
Champagnie also told the court that of 13 videos, the main clip, which was expected to show how the incident unfolded, was not viewable.
The senior attorney told the court that his client is a fit candidate for bail. However, the prosecution said Thompson was not fit for bail as the alleged circumstances surrounding the incident were outlined in court.
Thompson, otherwise called “Big T” or “Thommo”, an engineer of Levy Lane in Manchester, is charged with two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of wounding with intent, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of assault at common law, two counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to commit injury, and using a firearm to commit a felony following the incident on Levy Lane on Sunday, February 23.
Those killed are 42-year-old Stacy-Ann Mulgrave of Barnstable District, Manchester and 46-year-old Ann-Marie Hanson of Caledonia Road, also of Manchester.
A police report said about midnight, Thompson was at a candlelight vigil when he and a man got into an argument over a motor vehicle accident. The argument escalated, causing a crowd.
It is alleged that Thompson, who is a licensed firearms holder, opened gunfire at the crowd, hitting multiple persons before leaving the area. The injured individuals were assisted to the hospital, where Mulgrave and Hanson were pronounced dead and the others were admitted for treatment.
