Therapedic Caribbean launches dual-comfort mattress
Company targets regional growth from upcoming expo
Therapedic Caribbean has introduced a new dual-comfort mattress system at Half Moon Resort in Montego Bay as part of a strategy to deepen its presence in the hospitality market and push towards regional growth.
The ‘preference’ mattress, designed with dual-comfort technology, allows hotel guests to select their preferred firmness — firm or plush — using a single, reversible mattress. The product was developed with input from Half Moon and tailored to match the resort’s luxury positioning.
“We are always trying to find that one bed that will satisfy everybody that walks into that hotel room — and that’s sometimes almost impossible,” Aswad Morgan, director of Therapedic Caribbean, told the Jamaica Observer. “So we said why not make a mattress that will perhaps be able to satisfy one other person with one goal — that is, in a hotel space. They’re either going to like something that is semi-firm or they’re likely to prefer something that is on the plush, softer side.”
The mattress was tested and refined over a three-to-four-week period and is being offered exclusively to hotels for now. Morgan confirmed that the product is priced at a premium, noting that its customisable nature and engineering make it better suited for high-end clients.
“This is a premium product because it’s highly customised,” he said. “Half Moon is a luxury hotel, and so they would have tailored it and customised it to fit their sort of clientele and their standards.”
The company has a strong track record in the hotel supply space, having outfitted major properties, such as RIU, Hilton, Secrets, Jewel, Bahia Principe, and Zoetry resorts. It recently completed a project for a high-end hotel in Belize and is actively targeting more regional clients.
“We’re pushing hard to get our hotel product into the Caribbean,” said Morgan. “We just recently did a hotel in Belize… a really nice product was sent out there.”
Therapedic Caribbean is the Jamaican licensee for Therapedic International, which operates more than 80 factories worldwide. It is part of the family-owned Morgans Group and is the only Jamaican manufacturer of NASA-developed memory foam. Through its vertically integrated model, the company produces not only mattresses, but also bed bases, memory foam pillows, protectors, toppers, and converters — positioning itself as a one-stop solution for hospitality sleep products.
The company will showcase the preference mattress along with a more advanced adjustable bed system at Expo Jamaica, which opens Thursday at the National Arena in St Andrew.
“We will have on show the most innovative sleep system ever witnessed in Jamaica,” he told the Business Observer on Tuesday. “It has a massage feature. It is fully adjustable. All the bells and whistles.”
More than 700 buyers are registered for the trade event, and Therapedic hopes the exposure will lead to new contracts within the region and beyond.
“We’re always on the hunt for that next big hotel project,” Morgan said. “Trying to stay ahead of the competition, trying to continue to stay innovative, trying to stay relevant at the forefront of the whole bedding industry.”
