Ian Levy Cup heats up with 15 provisional entries
Funcaandun, Legacy Isle lead the pack
All eyes will be fixed on the 2025 Ian Levy Cup, which is set to take place on April 5. This Grade One race, open to three-year-olds and older, promises to be an electrifying contest, with 15 top-notch horses provisionally entered to compete over a challenging distance of 8 1/2 furlongs.
Among the talented field is Legacy Isle, trained by Rohan Crichton, who has been assigned a hefty 57.0kgs (126 lb) in the handicaps. This impressive weight only serves to underscore Legacy Isle’s status as a formidable contender.
However, all the buzz will be centred around Funcaandun, the reigning Mouttet Mile champion and current Horse of the Year. After a triumphant 2024 season, Funcaandun is entered here to make a possible highly anticipated return to racing in 2025. Despite not having competed yet this year, Funcaandun’s past glory and impressive credentials have racing fans eagerly awaiting its performance in the Ian Levy Trophy.
This year’s Ian Levy Cup has taken on added significance, as it now serves as an automatic qualifier for the prestigious Mouttet Mile. The stakes are high, and the competition is fierce.
