Grange pays tribute to Wellesley Bolt
Kingston, Jamaica – Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, has expressed condolences to the family of sprint legend Usain Bolt following the passing of his father, Wellesley Bolt.
In a statement, Grange described Wellesley as the unwavering pillar of support behind his son’s success.
“Nothing beats the unconditional love of a supportive family,” she said, emphasising the critical role both Wellesley and his wife, Jennifer, played in shaping Usain’s legendary career.
“They were Usain’s chief motivator, chief cheerleader, source of constant support, and stability,” Grange noted, adding that Wellesley’s dedication to his family was exceptional.
Affectionately known as “Gideon” in his hometown of Trelawny, Wellesley was remembered by Grange as a passionate father who was deeply invested in the success of his loved ones. She credited his encouragement and guidance as key factors in Usain’s rise to becoming the fastest man in history.
“I offer my sincerest condolences to Jennifer, Usain, and the rest of the Bolt family. It is going to be a difficult time, but I encourage them to be comforted by the memory of a very good father,” Grange said.
