Gay and Christian?
Dear Editor,
I have heard of gay Christians and even gay pastors. How can this be? This is a contrary combination! It is like a continuum with gays on the one axis and Christians on the other. In mathematics, you would say they are incongruent; they do not intersect, and neither can they.
The essence of a Christian life is the desire and lifelong journey of purification, sanctification, and new birth. The attitude and character of a Christian models the Most High’s, for we were made in His image and likeness. Sin has robbed us from this experience and oneness with God, our Eternal Father, the Most High Yahweh. But, with the incarnate Christ, we can once again replicate his character in us, which also includes staying away from “inordinate affection”. It is to be one man to a woman, or celibacy.
To be gay means that you have chosen to remain in the sinful nature of Adam’s temperament. No acceptance of the atoning blood of a loving Saviour. The lifestyle that is professed by gays blocks the transforming power of Jesus. It is a reliance on self — self-aggrandisement; desires of the devil: the lust of the eyes; the lust of the fresh; and the pride of life. All these lead to a stymied, failed victory. There is victory in the blood of Jesus. But when we choose a contrary lifestyle to Him, we can’t walk in boldness before Him. We have come to a roadblock. A decision must now be made. Will we follow our desires or will we do what God says?
A gay person cannot make it into God’s kingdom. So, too, is the fate of the adulterers, fornicators, liars, thieves, abusers, scammers. For we all must be born again — born of the water, the spirit, and the blood which will change our behaviour, condition, attitude, and lifestyle. We can’t have our cake and eat it. For a person to be a Christian and still indulge in a homosexual lifestyle is like driving into a cul-de-sac — there’s really nowhere to go!
To be gay and Christian is tantamount to saying, “I’m a Christian murderer” ; “I’m a Christian thief”; “I’m a fornicating Christian.” Being a Christian means something. Something that says that Christ lives here and the things that I used to do I do them no more. Therefore, if we harbour any thoughts and perform actions that are familiar or contrary to God’s expectations of us, then we are none of His. He will not hear us. We must then humble ourselves, turn from our wicked ways, confess our sins and travel on a path of righteousness.
Gays must repent! Based on God’s word, He cannot accept us with sin. No sin shall enter into God’s dwelling place. For all we like sheep have gone astray. But, thank God, Jesus came for us — all of us! He came to seek and to save that which was lost. This is a great assurance for us all, and for gays. There’s hope. God wants to change your circumstance and make you a vessel of honour. No, He did not make you that way. The devil has planted a strange seed. God has not condemned us when we err. We condemn ourselves when we refuse to deny ourselves and follow him.
The transforming power of God can make you whole in your spirit and body.
What a loving God!
Marie Henry
