WIFTJA launches inaugural screenwriting accelerator programme
WOMEN in Film and Television Jamaica Association (WIFTJA) has announced the launch of its inaugural screenwriting accelerator programme, set to begin selection of screenwriters in April 2025.
This pioneering initiative is designed to equip WIFTJA members with the essential training, structure, mentorship, and resources necessary during the crucial early stages of film development.
Targeting emerging and early-career writers who may not yet have a production credit, the accelerator will select four feature-length projects to participate in its first year. Participants will engage in an intensive development programme that teaches the intricacies of the screenwriting profession, including navigating contracts, understanding writers’ rooms, exploring residency opportunities, and mastering the art of pitching.
The programme kicks off with an intensive weekend featuring in-depth analysis aimed at refining participants’ story goals and enhancing their screenwriting skills. Following this initial session, participants will gather every other week for a collaborative workshop designed to foster creative growth, community support, and professional development.
The accelerator culminates with a symposium conference where writers have the unique opportunity to present their polished scripts to both local and international film industry professionals. The accelerator will run from May to October 2025 and is made possible through generous funding from the UNESCO Participation Programme 2025-26.
WIFTJA is committed to fostering talent and promoting diversity in storytelling.
