St Catherine’s Sudlow holds on to long jump title
Rohana Sudlow of St Catherine High retained her Class One Girls’ long jump title when she produced a wind-aided 6.46m (3.1m/s) at the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium yesterday.
Sudlow trailed in sixth place up to the third round when she produced her season’s best jump and retained her title as St Elizabeth Technical’s Chloe Palmer had a wind-aided 6.26m (2.2m/s) to take the silver medal, moving up from third place last year and St Jago High’s triple jump champion Jade-Ann Dawkins took third place with a wind-aided 5.80m (2.4m/s).
Campion College’s Stefvanco Henry won the Class Three girls long jump with a wind-aided 5.61m (4.4m/s).
Immaculate Conception’s Ashley Barrett was second with a wind-aided 5.56m (4.5m/s) and St Mary High’s high jump champion was third with 5.55m (1.1m/s).
Excelsior High’s Kimeka Smith took the gold medal in the Class One Girls’ shot put by throwing 15.02m in a dominant display.
Smith, who was second in the javelin throw, and also participated in the Heptathlon, put on an outstanding show, going over 14.43m on all six throws as St Catherine High’s Able Mills was second with 13.83m, and Hydel High’s Natassia Burrell was third with 13.80m.
Hydel High’s Zavien Bernard won her second high jump medal in successive years as she took the Class Two title, clearing 1.70m.
Bernard won in Class Three last year, was second in the Class Two long jump, and seventh in the triple jump open.
Kijonna Lee of Vere Technical took the silver medal with 1.65m and Malia Housen of Mount Alvernia High was third in 1.60m.
