Digital One delivers the goods in Gregory Park Trophy
In a breathtaking display of speed, four-year-old American-bred bay filly Digital One outran her rivals to claim the prestigious $1.4-million Gregory Park Trophy, the main event on the nine-race card yesterday.
Trained by Gary Subratie and ridden by champion jockey Raddesh Roman, Digital One showcased her exceptional talent, crossing the finish line three parts of a length ahead of the competition in the Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over five furlongs (1,000m). The Uncle Lino – Legal Redemption offspring stopped the clock at 1:00.1 (23.4 x 47.3) minutes.
Digital One burst out of the gates, quickly taking the lead as the field approached the half-mile (800m) mark. Pack Plays (Shane Richardson), Benson (Richie Shakes), and Wall Street Trader (Tyrese Anderson) gave chase, but Digital One’s pace proved unstoppable.
As the filly turned for home, she faced a fierce challenge from stablemates Pack Plays and Wall Street Trader. The three horses engaged in a thrilling battle for supremacy in the deep stretch. However, Digital One’s superior endurance and galloping ability allowed her to hold off her rivals and claim victory at the wire. Wall Street Trader took second place, followed closely by Pack Plays.
It was the second winner on the card for Roman as he later won aboard Runaway Star for champion trainer Jason DaCosta in the sixth race.
Also with two winners was jockey Tevin Foster, who won aboard Sweet Victory in the fourth race for trainer Matthew Williams, and Electrode in the seventh race for owner-trainer Lawrence Freemantle.
Racing continues on Saturday.
