Barita Investments partners with UWI Young Investors Club to cultivate future finance leaders
BARITA Investments Limited has announced a landmark partnership with the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Young Investors Club (YIC). This collaboration will foster financial literacy, career development, and professional growth among students, equipping the next generation of Jamaicans with the skills needed to thrive in the dynamic financial sector.
The partnership will provide YIC members with invaluable educational opportunities, including workshops and training sessions on investment and financial markets.
“Investing in youth is an investment in the future of the financial sector. We are committed to empowering these young minds to lead with knowledge and confidence,” said Chief Human Resources Officer at Cornerstone, Stephanie Murdock, emphasising the importance of this initiative.
The programme will also feature engaging competitions such as stock trading and stock pitch events, providing students with hands-on experience and mentorship from Barita’s experienced professionals. Successful participants will have access to internship opportunities and may be eligible for entry into Barita’s prestigious Cornerstone Analyst Programme.
David Welsh, president of the Young Investors Club, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership.
“This collaboration will provide invaluable opportunities for our members, allowing them to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios. We are thrilled to work with Barita and look forward to the growth and development this partnership will bring,” he said.
Richardo Williams, Barita’s vice president of asset management and research, and guest speaker at the launch, further emphasised the importance of cultivating key skills for success in the financial world.
“As you embark on this journey, I’d like to offer four guiding principles — critical foundations that will empower you, not only as exceptional investors but as thoughtful leaders. First, plan diligently but always maintain a bias toward action. Second, nurture your relentless curiosity and cultivate a latticework of mental models. Third, embrace the disciplined pursuit of intellectual humility. Finally, master the art of living through grit, perseverance, and equanimity.”
Murdock further emphasised Barita’s dedication to nurturing talent, fostering economic empowerment, and contributing to a stronger Jamaican financial sector.
“By supporting the development of these young minds, we secure a pipeline of top-tier candidates for our company’s future growth,” she said.
