Eleven Trinidad and Tobago nationals deported from the United States
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, (CMC) – The Ministry of National Security in Trinidad has confirmed that 11 out of an expected 14 citizens of the twin island republic were deported from the United States and arrived here early Friday.
In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said it received advanced notice from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the United States.
The ministry said earlier this week that an international commercial air transport permit for a chartered flight was applied for and granted by the local civil aviation authority to facilitate the return of the deportees.
“Upon arrival, 11 individuals consisting of 10 males and one female were met by the local immigration authorities and were processed in accordance with established protocols. However, the lone female was detained by law enforcement due to two local outstanding warrants,” it said.
The ministry informed that the relevant law enforcement agencies are working closely with their US counterparts regarding the repatriated nationals.
It said “all necessary measures have been implemented to monitor these individuals as they reintegrate into society”.
