Edwards adds triple jump victory to long jump gold
Sensational Shaw completes high jump/long jump double
Jamaica College’s (JC’s) outstanding jumper Michael-Andre Edwards produced an excellent performance claimed his second gold medal when he won the Class One triple jump at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships on Friday.
Edwards, who won the long jump competition on Wednesday, leapt 15.38m to finish comfortably ahead of Jamaica College’s Jaivar Cato (15.01). Titichfield High’s Ajarie Bloomfield finished third with a mark of 14.93m.
Calabar High’s Shamar Shaw completed the Boys’ Class Three high/long jump double after winning the gold medal in the horizontal jump. Shaw achieved 6.47m in the long jump to win ahead of Kingston College’s (KC’s) Daquan Dawkins, who took home the silver medal with a mark of 6.18m. JC’s Omeco Henclewood captured bronze with a mark of 5.95m.
Cornwall College’s Mar-Lando Farquharson threw a massive personal best 19.04m to lead all qualifiers for Saturday’s final of the Boys’ Class One shot put.
Farquharson, who was fourth last year, improved on his previous best of 18.88m set at the GC Foster Classic. It is the second farthest throw in Jamaica so far this year and is the 10th best-ever in ISSA Champs history.
Kingston College’s Despiro Wray, the pre-championships gold medal favourite, who threw 20.23m at the Carifta Trials, was next best with 18.30m.

Calabar’s Kamari Kennedy threw 59.16m to top the qualifiers for the final of the Boys’ Class Two discus competition. Brandon Lawrence (48.84) of Munro College, Clinton Baker (47.06) of Edwin Allen High, Blake Williams (46.48m) from Calabar High and Javontae Smith (45.54m) of Munro round off the top five qualifiers for the final.
