Pack Plays favoured to win $1.4-million Gregory Park Trophy
The $1.4-million Gregory Park Trophy is the highlight of tomorrow’s nine-race card at Caymanas Park, featuring a talented field of three-year-olds and upward competing in the Open Allowance contest over 5 furlongs (1,000m) round.
Here’s a closer look at each runner:
1. WALL STREET TRADER (USA): (6 dk b/br g by Vancouver – Selva) — Wall Street Trader impressed with a 4½-length victory over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m) on March 5. Although he faces a tougher test in this higher class, he’s expected to make a bold bid.
2. PACK PLAYS (USA): (4 dk b/b c by Stay Thirsty – Standard Deal) — Pack Plays struggled in the Chairman’s Trophy over 7½ furlongs (1,500m) on February 22, finishing fourth by 16 lengths behind Barnaby. However, he’s expected to thrive in this shorter distance and his speed and pace make him a formidable contender.
3. DIGITAL ONE (USA): (4 b f by Uncle Lino – Legal Redemption) – Digital One scored a mild upset win over 5½ furlongs (1,100m) on March 8. Repeating that performance will be challenging for Digital One.
4. CALIFORNIA CROWN: (4 ch c by Hedge Fund – Dream Big) – California Crown is a capable runner, but faces a tough task in this competitive field.
5. BENSON: (5 b h by Here Comes Ben – First Kiss) – Benson has little chance of winning.
