GraceKennedy makes ‘Good Move’ with Champs day out for Holy Family students
AS part of its Good Move programme and commitment to community development, GraceKennedy hosted 50 students from Holy Family Infant and Primary School at the opening day of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships on Tuesday.
Frank James, Group CEO of GraceKennedy, noted that the Holy Family Primary and Infant School has long been a part of the company’s outreach efforts, and this initiative was just another way to continue its support for the educational institution.
“The school is a part of our downtown Kingston family, and we have supported the school in many ways over the years. Bringing them to Champs is another way we’re investing in our youth — not just through products, but through experiences that show them what discipline, teamwork, and perseverance look like in action,” said James.
He explained that the Champs outing was about more than just having fun — “it was designed to be an experience that leaves a lasting impact”.
James added that the hope was that the day at Champs would inspire the students in their own lives.
“Our hope is that by watching other students compete at such a high level, these students will leave feeling motivated — whether in academics, sports, or any other area of life. These student-athletes train for months and come to Champs to put it all on the track, or on the field, and it is a testament not only to their talent, but to their commitment to excellence. And that is what our Good Move programme is all about — creating meaningful impact that lasts beyond the moment.”
The students were fully immersed in the Champs experience — cheering from the stands, receiving Grace-branded merchandise, enjoying meals, and even joining the official opening parade alongside GraceKennedy executives. For many, it was their first time attending Champs, and their excitement was clear throughout the day.
Renee Turner, a teacher at Holy Family, said the students were thrilled by the experience.
“They were happy to be part of it — waving their flags, cheering, soaking it all in. It was a really good day for them.”
As part of GraceKennedy’s wider support for Champs, the company is also operating a wellness hub at Stadium East. The hub offers students free health checks, mental wellness support, and other care services throughout the event.
In total, GraceKennedy has committed $185 million in cash and kind to this year’s staging of Champs, which ends on Saturday.
