FA Cup quarter-finals: Brighton, Bournemouth host crucial ties

With the first international break of 2025 done and dusted, the English FA Cup takes centre stage with two mouth-watering clashes as Brighton and red-hot Nottingham Forest square off on Saturday, then on Sunday, Bournemouth host Manchester City in another intriguing match-up.

Event # 1 – FA Cup – Brighton vs Nottingham Forest – 12:15 PM

Brighton and Nottingham will meet in an eagerly anticipated FA Cup quarter-final clash tomorrow, March 29, with the home team aiming for revenge, after being mauled 7-0 by Forest, when both teams last met at the City Ground in the league at the start of February. However, since that loss, Brighton have gone unbeaten in their last seven matches across all competitions, winning four of their last five Premier League outings, and they could yet secure Champions League qualification for next season. With that said, this could be a historic season for Brighton, as they are chasing their first ever success in the FA Cup competition, having reached the final once (in 1982/83), but they have reached the semi-final stage on two occasions since the 2018/19 season. The Seagulls, Brighton, will enter this vital clash with confidence at an all-time high, having scored two or more goals in each of their last seven overall matches.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest are two-time winners of the FA Cup, but they haven’t reached the semi-final stage since the 1990/91 campaign. However, Nottingham Forest have been having the season of their lives, sitting third in the Premier League and are looking likely to qualify for the Champions League next season. Ahead of this game, Forest have won three, drawn one, and have lost one of their last five overall matches, including back-to-back wins over Manchester City and Ipswich Town in their last two matches. However, its Forest’s away form that will be cause for concern as they have lost three of their last four away matches but will be buoyed by the fact that the last time they faced Brighton, they hammered them 7-0 back in February.

Key Stats

• Brighton – Brighton have won six and drawn one of their last seven games in all competitions.

• Nottingham Forest – Nottingham Forest last away win at Brighton was in 2015, but when both teams met in February at the Forest ground, they thumped Brighton 7-0.

• Both sides – Brighton are unbeaten in their last seven matches and have won four straight matches at home, while Forest haven’t lost in their last four matches, winning three in a row.

The betting Tip: Brighton win.

Event # FA Cup – Bournemouth vs Man City – 11:00 AM

Bournemouth will host Manchester City in another intriguing FA Cup clash on Sunday, as both teams aim to secure a semi-final spot and move one step closer to winning a trophy this season, since the Premier League title is out of reach for both sides. Indeed, the Cherries, Bournemouth, are aware that this season’s FA Cup presents them with a good chance of winning their first major trophy, but they have hit a poor run of form lately, winning just one of their last five overall matches, with that win coming in the last round of the FA Cup against a struggling Wolves team. However, the Cherries will take confidence from their first meeting with Man. City earlier this season, when theyregistered a shocking 2-1 victory in November. That win for Bournemouth was their first ever win over Manchester City,in what was their 22nd attempt.

On the other hand, Manchester City’s season has been poor by their lofty standards, as they currently sit fifth in the Premier League and are also out of the Champions League, following a 6-3 battering, on aggregate, by Real Madrid, after they finished 22nd in the group stage of the 34-team revamped format. Man City will be keen to avoid ending the season empty-handed as the FA Cup represent their only chance of winning silverware this season.Prior to the shock 2-1 loss to Bournemouth back in early November, Manchester City had won the other 15 matches played between both teams from October 2015 onwards, which means they will be confident of resuming their dominance over an unpredictable Bournemouth team that isn’t in the best of form recently. However, Man. City themselves aren’t in the best of form either as they are without a win in their last two matches, following a 2-2 home draw with Brighton, then losing 1-0 away at Nottingham Forest.

Key Stats

• Bournemouth – Bournemouth had lost each of their previous 15 consecutive meetings Manchester City before they shocked them with a 2-1 win back in November.

• Man City – Man City have won each of their previous seven visits to Bournemouth by an aggregate score of 17-3.

• Both sides – Manchester City have lost just one of their last 22 matches against Bournemouth in all competitions, with that lone loss coming in November of last year.

The betting Tip: Manchester City win.
