#Champs2025: JC’s Salmon and Munro’s Smith deliver in the throws
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica College’s Joseph Salmon and Munro College’s Javontae Smith lived up to expectations and delivered big performances on Thursday’s third day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Salmon threw a personal best 62.14m to win the Class One boys’ discus throw, beating his previous best of 59.90m that he had achieved at the King of the Ring meet in early February.
Salmon, who won the Class Two title while attending Clarendon College last year, threw over 60.00m twice Thursday evening, which included a 60.09m throw in the fourth round after back-to-back fouls. Rajay Hemmings of St Catherine High was second with 54.61m and Munro College’s Rajeem Streete took the bronze with 54.50m.
Smith retained his Class Two shot put gold with a 18.81m mark, going over 18.00m on all four legal throws. Calabar High’s Kamari Kennedy took silver with 18.29m while Adrian Daley of St Catherine High was third with 17.30m.
