#Champs2025: Dockery gets into 200m final on second attempt
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Lacovia High’s Sabrina Dockery’s quest for the girls’ Class 1 sprint double is back on after she took full advantage of a chance to rerun her girls’ Class 1 200m semi-final on Friday’s fourth day of the 115th ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
After having her disqualification for a false start overturned, Dockery raced to a 23.88 second clocking in a special race along with Immaculate Conception’s Shevi-Anne Shim.
Dockery’s time was the fourth fastest, and she will replace Vere Technical’s Tianna Rhooms, who had qualified on time with 24.39 seconds (-0.5m/s) in the final set for Saturday.
Shim ran 24.61 seconds, 11th best and failed to get a place in the final.
Both athletes were adjudged to have false-started in the same semi-final heat and were disqualified, but had their protests upheld by the Jury of Appeals.
Dockery had led the qualifying from Thursday morning with a time of 23.22 seconds, while Shim had clocked 24.66 seconds.
The Lacovia High athlete is seeking the double after winning the 100m in a personal best 11.08 seconds on Wednesday, the second fastest ever at Champs and fifth best all time by a Jamaican Under- 20 female.
