#Champs2025: Sudlow seeks to defend long jump title
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Rohanna Sudlow of St Catherine High will be going after back-to-back girls’ Class One long jump gold medals on Saturday’s final day of the 115th ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Sudlow needed just one attempt to get over the automatic qualifying distance of 5.80m, jumping 5.95m ().0m/s) with only St Elizabeth Technical High School’s Chloe Palmer who had a wind-aided 6.05m (2.9m/s) getting a better mark in Thursday’s preliminary rounds.
Palmer, who was fourth last year, is recovering from an injury she sustained at the County of Cornwall Athletics Association Western Championships (COCAA).
Deijanae Bruce of Edwin Allen High, the bronze medallist last year, also made progress with 5.56m (1.4m/s) while Sabrina Atkinson of Hydel High — 5.74m (0.1m/s), Ishna James of Edwin Allen — 5.74 (1.0m/s), Jade Ann Dawkins of St Jago High — 5.64m (2.4m/s) and COCAA Champs gold medallist Cheyenne Cooper of William Knibb — 5.54 (-0.5m/s) are also through.
