#Champs2025: Girls’ 100m champions on course for sprint double
KINGSTON, Jamaica — All four girls’ 100m champions stayed on course for the sprint double after Thursday’s first round of the 200m at the 115th ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Class One champion Sabrina Dockery of Lacovia High, Class Two winner Shanoya Douglas of Muschett High, Shannia Campbell of St Jago in Class Three and Adalia Simpson of Holmwood Technical in Class Four, made progress into Friday’s semi-finals.
Dockery led the Class One qualification with 23.22 seconds (-0.1m/s). Rihanna Allen of St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) was next with 23.93 seconds (1.0m/s), Jounee Armstrong of Edwin Allen followed with 24.01 seconds (0.6m/s) and Jody-Ann Daley of Hydel High ran 24.01 seconds (0.4m/s).
Holmwood Technical’s Doniella Lewis, who was second in the 100m, also advanced with 24.21 seconds (1.2m/s).
Douglas, who is seeking to defend her Class Two title, did enough with 24.95 seconds (-1.1m/s), eighth best overall as Natrece East of Wolmer’s Girls, who had taken the silver medal in the 100m final, ran 24.68 seconds (0.5m/s) which was sixth best.
Hydel High’s Sashana Johnson led the qualifying round with a wind-aided 24.30 seconds (2.5m/s), followed by Shanika Lindsay of Alphansus Davis who ran 24.39 seconds (1.6m/s), with Excelsior High’s Breana Brown also advancing with a wind-aided 24.40 seconds (2.7m/s).
Also making progress were Britannaia Bailey of Holmwood Technical who had a wind-aided 24.59 seconds (3.0m/s) and Kerelle Etienne of Edwin Allen who ran 24.59 seconds (1.3m/s).
St Jago High’s Campbell was second best in the Class Three qualifying round after she ran 24.58 seconds (-1.7m/s) behind Titchfield High’s Kevina Bourne who ran 24.41 seconds (-2.2m/s) while Foga Road High’s Shameika McLean was next quickest with 24.72 seconds (-1.6m/s).
Vere Technical’s Shayon Smith, who was second in the 100m, was further back in the 200m, running 25.03 seconds (-2.2m/s), 17th overall.
Holmwood’s Simpson led the Class Four qualifying round with 25.18 seconds (0.0), ahead of Hydel High’s Reneka Reid who ran 25.57 (-0.9m/s) with Immaculate Conception’s Anya Johnson who ran 25.75 seconds (-0.5m/s) and Vere Technical’s 100m silver medalist Danae Bartley who ran 25.79 seconds (-0.8m/s) also making progress.
